Yahoo - I'm working!!! In RF ID again!!!
It's funny. I saw a story about privacy and RFID. The paper talked about several companies. I sent one of them a (second) Resume and got a bite. I work there now....
My background: I'm a Sr. RF Technician. For the last five years, I've worked in Engineering. Usually RF R& D, related. At my last job, I made and designed, small HF antennas. Before this, I worked in Manufacturing, as a Senior level RF Technician. This for the past 15+. My focus was to debug electronics circuits to the component level. This was often stuff, others could not repair. And, helping them make a more, manufactureable product. This by, updating the test procedures and documentation, train others, finding and fixing the root problems. The down side to this kind of work is it tend to be not long term. Jobs last 3 months to 2 Years. I normally get another job, quickly, within a month or so...
I was unemployed, for several YEARS. I'm was staring to see a pattern, to my interviews (and lack of them), and me not getting the job...
1) Companies are really wanting to hire a Engineer, for technician wages.
I am not an Engineer. Engineer's, usually do not make good tech's. Jr. Engineers, usually don't have, experience, nor hands on know how. I do. I've gone on several interviews, where the interviewers questions, are totally irrelevant to being a Technician. Instead they were hard core, design related. When I try to answer the question as from a, "Tech," point of view, the answers is not what they are looking for.
2) We aren't hiring your kind. (No one actually said that)...
Race, I try my best to be, "color blind." I'm, an upper 30-ies something, white male. I try to judge people on how that act, less on what they say; And, not on how they look or dress...In electronics companies, in the Manufacturing areas, and sometimes in Engineering, there tends to be a dominant race. Usually asian (not always). Not everyone (race) believes in equal opportunity. In at least two cases, I have proof positive, that I lost out on a job opportunity, because I was white.
These days, it's who you know not, what. Also, I'm finding that in my interviews, my interviewer is usually in there twenties (looks to be half my age)...
I got a call from a friend who said there they were looking for a Sr. RF Technician. The job was a perfect fit. Long story short, I did not get the job. In this company's Manufacturing floor, has 98% Vietnamese. In a call to my friend, he told me that they hired an Vietnamese person.Case two.
Included in my regular search, I have tried to get, non electronics jobs. About twenty plus years ago, I worked, while in collage, at fast food restraints. I thought I could go back to this. Where I live, it's mostly Hispanics (Mexicans) working in Fast Food Restaurants. It's about, 95% Mexicans. Hear, I find, theses people, generally, don't speak much English, are not citizens, and do not have plans for either. They are temporary workers, who work hear, and ship there incomes back home.
I was told at one local Fast Food Restaurant that, "Everyone hear speaks, Spanish (Mexican), and very little English, do you speak Spanish? As you will need to communicate..." I don't real speak any other languages. I speak a few works of, Spanish, Viennese, Mandarin& Cantonese Chinese...
I'm not inclined to sue anyone, to solve problems; But what am I supposed to do? Learn Spanish to get a minimum wage, 20 Hr p/wk, job; What, or what???
